Ideological Void
The material deconstruction of a monument goes hand in hand with the removal of what it symbolizes from public memory. Ideological Void is a long-term investigation into the ideological materialism and connected historical narratives established as hegemonial after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The ongoing artistic intervention deals with a series of the ruins that show traces of portrait removal or destruction bearing witness to their lost active socio-political role. The missing busts are re-molded from a soluble material and installed on the empty plinths.
As a proxy and performance at the same time, the ephemeral interventions fill the resulting gaps – until they melt – generating a political space that enables an (im)possible discussion.
